Netflix recently made an exciting announcement about an upcoming limited drama series named "Griselda," which stars Sofia Vergara in the lead role as Griselda Blanco. The six-part series, based on the real-life story of Griselda Blanco, is set to premiere on Netflix on January 25, 2024, at 3 a.m. EST.

The six-part series draws inspiration from the real-life story of Griselda Blanco, infamous as the "Black Widow" or the "Black Widow of Medellín". Blanco, a once prominent Colombian businesswoman, transformed into a drug lord and earned the moniker 'The Godmother' of the notorious Medellín Cartel during the 1970s and 1980s.

Her involvement in drug trafficking, murder, and various criminal activities, coupled with her ruthless demeanour, solidifies her status among history's most notorious drug lords, often compared to figures like Pablo Escobar, Osiel Cárdenas Guillén, Al Capone, and El Chapo.

The official Netflix synopsis provides a glimpse into the series, stating, "Griselda is inspired by the life of the savvy and ambitious Griselda Blanco, who created one of the most profitable cartels in history. In 1970s-80s Miami, Blanco’s lethal blend of unsuspected savagery and charm helped her expertly navigate between business and family, leading her to become widely known as 'the Godmother.'"

Filming commenced on January 24, 2022, and concluded on July 1, 2022, in Los Angeles and Miami, as reported by Griselda showrunners Ingrid Escajeda and Sofia Vergara. Although no trailer is available, Netflix released a teaser on September 22, building anticipation for the coming limited series.
